Toloha School Project
Deep in the bush in the Kilamanjaro region of Tanzania, Africa is the village of Toloha, home to the Toloha Orphanage and School. Serving more than 200 children between the ages of 5 and 17, the Toloha Orphanage and School serves as a haven of comfort and a beacon of hope for children in the region.
The children are loved, cared for, educated, and taught skills to help them develop and grow into successful adults.
The Children
The children are the heart and soul of the Toloha Orphanage and School. Despite the challenging circumstances in which many of them start their lives, the children are joyful, resilient, and filled with love. Our goal is to love them back. To support them. To meet their needs and transform their futures. To help them to clearly see God’s plan for each of their lives.

The Need
We are happy that we have been able, with help from generous partners, to help make improvements at the Toloha Orphanage and School, yet many needs still remain. The children need essential resources like nutritious food, access to clean water, clothing, and school supplies. They need a place to sleep, tables and chairs in their classrooms, books and school supplies, and the list goes on. With your support, we can continue to help meet their needs, shape their futures, and empower them to reach their full potential.
The Mission
Our goal is not just to provide financial support to the Toloha Orphanage and School. We are partnering with them, mentoring them, and helping them to learn skills that will improve lives not just today, but for generations to come.
The Facilities
With seven buildings, a garden, and two tanks holding 950 gallons of water, which is supplied from a well we were able to provide in 2021, the infrastructure at Toloha Village and School is in place. There is always maintenance that needs to be done and improvements that need to be made, though. From paint to building materials – your support is needed in making and keeping the facilities safe, clean, and a place the children can call home.
On-Site Leadership
Jasper and Mary Byabashaija, along with their four children, live on the campus of the Toloha Orphanage and School. As natives of the area, they have committed their lives to caring for the children and they strive every day to see that the needs of each child are met. Leading a team of more than 20 staff members, Jasper and Mary provide guidance and stability on site daily at the Toloha Orphanage and School.
What Your Partnership Does
Food – A Lifeline for the Community
With more than 200 children and 24 staff members, one of the greatest ongoing needs at the Toloha Orphanage and School is to provide daily meals. Every day over 200 people gather three times for nourishment, fellowship, and care, which means more than 600 meals a day and 4,200 meals a week are needed.
In this remote region of Tanzania, food is more than a necessity—it is a lifeline. The school also regularly shares meals with members of the local Maasai community, extending Christ's love beyond its walls and into the surrounding villages.
For many of these children, the meals they receive at the school are the most consistent and reliable source of nutrition they have ever known. Every plate of food represents hope, stability, and the tangible love of God at work through faithful supporters.
Your generosity helps ensure that no child goes hungry and that this refuge in the wilderness can continue to serve those who need it most.
Buildings do not raise children—people do. The heart of the Toloha Orphanage and School ministry is found in the dedicated men and women who care for the children every day. From teaching lessons in the classroom to preparing meals, washing clothes, maintaining the grounds, and providing daily supervision, the work never stops.
Most staff members wear multiple hats, serving wherever there is a need. A teacher may also help care for children after school hours. A cook may assist with other daily responsibilities. Everyone works together to create a safe, loving environment where children can thrive.
Finding, training, housing, and retaining qualified teachers and staff in this remote region of Tanzania comes at a significant cost; yet their presence is essential. These faithful workers provide not only education and care, but also mentorship, stability, and the love of Christ to children who desperately need it.
Every donation helps support the people who make this refuge possible. By investing in the staff, you are investing directly in the lives and futures of the more than 200 children of the Toloha Orphanage and School.
Payroll - The People Behind the Mission
In a ministry serving more than 200 children, transportation is not a luxury—it is a necessity. In 2026, the school was blessed with the purchase of a small van, affectionately referred to as the "school bus." This vehicle helps transport teachers to and from the school, children who still have families in the surrounding communities, and supplies needed to keep the ministry operating.
Education requires far more than a classroom and a teacher. Every year, the school provides notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, textbooks, workbooks, and other essential learning materials for hundreds of students. As the school continues to progress, more needs emerge, including computers, software, internet access, equipment maintenance, and hands-on learning resources that help prepare students for future careers and opportunities. These everyday educational tools are critical investments in the future of every child who walks through the school's doors.
Beyond transportation and educational resources, there are many behind the scenes costs that make The Toloha Orphanage and School possible. Maintaining a website, operating computers, processing donations, transferring funds internationally, and coordinating logistics all require resources to ensure support reaches the children who depend on it.
Every gift helps. Your generosity allows teachers to teach, children to learn, meals to be served, and hope to continue reaching this remote corner of Tanzania where lives are being transformed every day.
