Thursday Thoughts: Fear Has No Place Here
Scripture Reading
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
— Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)
Reflection
Fear.
Not the passing worry of what tomorrow might bring — but true, unadulterated fear.
The kind that freezes you in place, steals your breath, and clouds your thoughts.
The kind that makes you question your sanity, your safety, and even your faith.
There are things in this world that are not holy. Evil is real.
We’re told clearly in Scripture that our battles aren’t with flesh and blood but with spiritual forces — unseen powers at work in dark places.
This kind of fear isn’t cured by wishful thinking or worldly comfort.
It’s overcome only through the power and presence of God.
In Genesis, we learn that a third of the angels fell from heaven — those fallen beings now roam as the enemies of righteousness. Why they chose rebellion, why they follow Satan, we can’t fully understand. Some answers are simply hidden behind the veil.
But here’s what we can know:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
— Proverbs 3:5 (ESV)
When we face fear, we have two choices:
To let it consume us or to let it drive us closer to Christ.
Putting on the Armor
Ephesians 6 tells us how to combat darkness and fear — not with worldly weapons, but with the armor of God:
The Belt of Truth – Hold fast to what God says, not what fear whispers.
The Breastplate of Righteousness – Guard your heart from corruption and doubt.
The Shoes of Peace – Walk in calm assurance wherever you go.
The Shield of Faith – Deflect every fiery dart of fear the enemy hurls your way.
The Helmet of Salvation – Protect your thoughts; remember whose you are.
The Sword of the Spirit – Wield the Word of God boldly in prayer and proclamation.
How do we put this armor on?
Through prayer. Through reading His Word. Through surrender.
Lay down the distractions and sins that separate you from God — whether that’s addiction, anger, excess, or even endless scrolling through the noise of this world.
Pick up your cross daily.
Even Christ Himself felt fear in His flesh. Hanging on the cross, He cried out:
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)
But fear did not win that day.
His next words were not of despair — but of forgiveness:
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)
Faith Over Fear
Fear has no permanent place in the believer’s life.
But it will try to visit — and when it does, you must decide whether to open the door.
For the unbeliever, fear leads only to despair.
But for the follower of Christ, there is hope — because perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18).
Yes, even the disciples feared. They hid, they doubted, they trembled. But once they fixed their eyes on Jesus, fear fled.
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”
— Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
When fear creeps into your heart, remember this:
A house divided cannot stand.
If your heart is filled with fear, it cannot be filled with the peace of Christ.
But once Christ enters in, fear flees like a thief in the night.
Fill your heart — your home — with worship, prayer, and the Word.
Let Christ reign where fear once ruled.
Prayer
Father,
When fear grips my heart, remind me that You are greater.
Teach me to put on the full armor of God daily — to stand firm against darkness.
Drive out all fear from my heart and fill me with Your peace that passes understanding.
In the name of Jesus, I claim victory over fear.
Amen.
Takeaway
Fear thrives in darkness.
Faith shines in light.
So when fear comes knocking, let Jesus answer the door.
