From Knowledge to Love

Scripture Reading:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV)

Reflection

Life has a way of shaping the way we lead.

As young men, we often lead with confidence rooted in knowledge. We think we know enough to guide others—because I know. Yet knowledge without humility can be shallow, and wisdom without experience can be dangerous.

As fathers, the weight of survival rests on our shoulders. Bills must be paid, children must be fed, and families must be protected. This pressure often drives us to lead with authority—because I said so. Responsibility can easily become fear, and fear often drives us to control rather than nurture.

But when we step into the role of a grandfather, something changes. The years soften us. We recognize that our understanding was always limited, that our fears were often bigger in our minds than in reality. Having ensured the survival of our families, we see more clearly: the greatest leadership is not found in knowledge or authority, but in love.

Grandfathers lead differently—because I love you. Love becomes the foundation. Experience teaches that schedules, precision, and control matter less than the memories, lessons, and faith we leave behind. And in this stage of life, we are closer than ever to leading with the unconditional love of Christ, who leads us not with fear but with grace.

Prayer

Father,
Teach me to lead not with pride in what I know,
nor with fear over what I cannot control,
but with love that reflects Your Son.
Help me to see that wisdom is not in power,
but in humility, grace, and unconditional love.
May my children and grandchildren remember me,
not for my authority, but for my faith in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
